Work for us

If you are looking for an equine job or apprenticeship in the equestrian industry, you have found a really special place to work.   As a continuously flourishing business we are always on the look out for suitable candidates for the following two roles.

Age: 16-18 years – Duration: 1 or 2 years

  • Are you in education or just finishing education and want to be with horses?
  • Would you like to become a better rider and a qualified riding coach?
  • Would you like to learn hands-on from qualified, experienced and successful equestrians?
  • Would you like to become a valued team member of our top quality equestrian establishment?
  • Would you like to earn a wage whilst learning?

Why not come and join us at our busy British Horse Society approved riding school and livery yard. Continue to learn and develop whilst with the horses on a day to day basis & earn £132 per week.

You will need to have a minimum of two years’ experience caring for horses, have a good work ethic with robust health, enjoy being with people, especially children, plus be able to drive or acquire a lift as we are not accessible by public transport, nor have on site accommodation.

Working and learning over a 40 hour week, which will include weekends, you will be employed alongside our current apprentices, all of whom we hold in high regard – they are excellent team members and seriously contribute to what makes Lavant House Stables so great.

Each apprenticeship is of one year duration, which can be extended, and is under the auspices of Haddon Training who will carry out regular visits to assess your career development and qualification targets. We also choose to train all of our apprentices towards the British Horse Society examinations with the aim of all staff developing into qualified riding instructors.

General duties will involve assisting in the high quality care of the wide variety of 55 horses who all live out –from old tiny ponies up to large competition horses, and just about everything in between – please note that equine welfare is our number one priority. Beyond horse care there will be general yard duties, pasture maintenance, preparing horses for lessons, assisting instructors and customers. You will be surprised just how much you learn about the practical aspects of running a successful, busy riding school and the behind the scenes effort it takes to deliver a quality high standard service.

Along the way you will also pick up a wide range of career skills, such as understanding about customer care, what makes a business tick and keeps it successful, how to work within a team, the administration aspect, and so-on – you will certainly never stop learning at Lavant House Stables.

We look forward to the opportunity of helping you take your first important steps onto the professional equestrian career ladder.

NB: We can sometimes also offer one year apprenticeships for people over 18 – please do ask us.

Do you want to develop your equestrian career, improve as a horse rider and become a really top quality riding instructor?  If you do, come and join our enthusiastic and supportive team at our thriving BHS approved riding centre set in the idyllic location of the South Downs National Park.

This important full-time, permanent role covers all general yard duties, assisting with lessons and some riding to help us deliver the highest standard of customer care for which we are renowned.

This is a five day a week role on a set rota which includes weekends and some evening cover, with 28 days of paid holiday leave per annum.  The salary starts at the national minimum wage with plenty of opportunity to top this up through commissions, bonuses and substantial skill set increments as you progress in your training.

Whilst you will be provided with ongoing training towards attaining BHS qualifications, including training from Robert Pickles FBHS, plus provided with opportunities to compete and hunt, please note this is not a training role but a role for a full-time committed team member who is keen to advance their skills and career.

Whilst it is not necessary to have any qualifications to apply for this role, at least two years’ experience of looking after horses is essential and preference will be given to those who hold a degree, BHS qualifications, and/or are capable riders.  However being a team player and having a willingness to learn remain of primary importance to be successful in this important role.  Robust health is essential as this is a physically demanding role and only non-smokers should apply.  Please note DBS check and references will be required.
