Really good home to our two well-handled Kiri Kiri gelded pigs ...>>>
|
Do you know anyone who can offer a really good home to our two well-handled Kiri Kiri gelded pigs, Rasher and Chops? We can no longer allow them roam around as they wander onto the road and there is little point in keeping them here if they can’t mingle with the rest of us – plus they are very social and like to be with people.

A good quality wooden, transportable pig ark is also available to purchase if required – there is no charge for the pigs as the home is the most important thing. Do give Karris a ring on 01243 530460 or drop her a line on riding@lhstables.co.uk if you know of anyone who could give them a great home.

Firstly congratulations are in order for our apprentice Heather (Ellis) who has just passed her British Horse Society Stage 1 complete at her first attempt!

...and also to Sandra Young who joined us with her handsome new horse Smithy this week as an Elite Livery.

|
|

And secondly good luck to all of our Weekend Assistants and clients (including my daughter Amelia) who are all in the throws of their GCSEs at the moment – a very stressful time for these young people. I certainly don’t remember it being as pressurised as it is now, but then sadly I never took school very seriously so this is hardly a surprise! All of us here at Lavant House Stables want to wish all of you young students the very best of luck to achieve the exam results you have been striving for.

On the index panel to the left of the news there is a direct link to the horse show photos our professional photographer Peter Cox took on the 3rd May and I hope you will have a look at these as they certainly reflect the wonderful atmosphere of the day. Also I wanted to show you this picture of Fran Chipperfield’s weaving efforts as she made these baskets for the Fancy Dress class at the show and I refused to believe her at the time!

This Friday (the 28th) we start our evening competition series (online entries here) which this year are being overseen by our instructor Lauren Annals and we have been promised our new set of show jumps will arrive this day in time for the competition – very exciting as it is a decade since we last made a large investment in jumping equipment.
Online entries here for competitions and here for Activity Days or PC Owning Days) or please give us a call on 01243 530460.

As usual the staff of Lavant House Stables did not disappoint when participating in the Spring Jumping Clinic given by Captain Mark Phillips on the 27th in Surrey. Kerry and Julepe where particularly outstanding in their group and received plenty of compliments including from the man himself. As usual there was more than enough to learn and his next clinic will be during the autumn half-term in October, so please bear this in mind if you fancy coming up with us – everyone is welcome and this really is a unique opportunity to learn from someone who is widely recognised within the equestrian sector as being one of the world’s all-time greatest trainers

Our three-year-old Andalusian filly Bonita (out of Saucy and by Julepe) is off on the 28th, again to Surrey if to a different location, to be graded as acceptable for the Spanish Horse Breeding Register and will then be put in foal to Jocosco who Amora is currently in foal to. Amora (Roma’s daughter by Julepe) is due to drop her first foal on the 14th June and our Spanish brood mare Kalia is this year in foal to a recommended Irish Draught stallion in order to breed a heavyweight type for our riding school, and this foal is due on the 25th of the same month. Afterwards we will likely put her back in foal to Julepe again as we have been pleased with all of the offspring through this mating.

One thing I can always guarantee about this place is there will always be too much to impart – and it was my choice to update the Latest News bi-weekly instead of weekly simply because it was carving out too much of my time each week to do it – probably because I always have too much to say! I just hope someone reads it now I think about it …….!!
So finally the new development has started – with our own car park being number one on the list, which is certainly our choice but also a condition of the planning application. First off was exposing the well, which we knew was there courtesy of local knowledge but had been unable to access until now. It is unbelievably deep – as my husband discovered on losing his Raybans down it when trying to light and photograph its deepest depths at the same time and we will be make a (safe) feature of it when putting the finishing touches to the new car park.

Whilst the Archaeologists did find some ancient remains pre-checking the site before the new buildings could go up, thankfully these was under the car park area and was sufficiently minor and deep not to require further investigation at this stage as the car park only requires very shallow footings. However what I did manage to do was interest the Archaeologists in having a look at our Ice House, which is the funny looking dog kennel type thing you see on your left after just walking into our woods. The entrance has been blocked thank goodness for now because I understand that the first drop is about twenty feet down and the second a good fifty – also intriguingly is the lore of there being a smugglers’ tunnel from this cave to the coast – so I do very much hope the Archaeologists will be able to restore this interesting piece of history.
And on that note, which has absolutely nothing to do with horses, I will be back again soon!
